Book Review: One day in December - Josie Silver

Hey guys! Hope you are all good. I try my best to be good too because I study for my exams these days and I'm a little bit anxious about them. I will sit for 3 more subjects these days and today I gave exams for one out of four so I have a little time to talk you about about a book I finished some days ago. All these months I was reading books of Greek authors so I was very enthusiastic about reading the "One day in December" because it is written by a foreign author (for me) Josie Silver. I really wanted to read foreign literature after a long time!

Assumption:
Two people. Ten chances. One unforgettable love story.

One day in December - Josie Silver

Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn't exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there's a moment of pure magic... and then her bus drives away.

Certain they're fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn't find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they "reunite" at a Christmas party, when her best friend Sarah giddily introduces her new boyfriend to Laurie. It's Jack, the man from the bus. It would be.

What follows for Laurie, Sarah and Jack is ten years of friendship, heartbreak, missed opportunities, roads not taken, and destinies reconsidered. One Day in December is a joyous, heartwarming and immensely moving love story to escape into and a reminder that fate takes inexplicable turns along the route to happiness.

About author:
Josie Silver is an unashamed romantic who met her husband when she stepped on his foot on his twenty-first birthday. She lives with him, her two young sons, and their cats in a little midlands town in England.

My review:
Before I start talking about this book I want to clarify that I'm fan of romance. I say that because I'm going to critize a classic and very foreseeable love story about two people who first met at a bus stop and fell in love at first sight with each other. The interesting thing of this story is the way that Josie Silver narrate it because you can't say that this book is about an innovative story. The author doesn't focus only on the relationship of Laurie and Jack. She also emphasizes at the friendship's and family's worth. Every character of this book has its own story to tell and its own messages to put across. Specifically:

Plot (4/5): The story lacks of too many throwbacks and that helps to coprehend what really matters without complex the characters.

Topic (3/5): As I said before the "One day in December" is a classic and very foreseeable love story so I can't say that I was enthusiastic about it when I read its assumption.

Scenery (5/5): The main reason I loved this book is the way that Josie Silver describes incidents, reactions, behaviors and background. They were all so realistic that I felt like I was there and I was watching Laurie and Jack argue for the nth time (oopsie spoiler alert)

Writing style (5/5): I don't usually read foreign literature but when I do it I want to choose a book that will help me relax and enjoy the coziness without being stressful and overwhelmed. Josie Silver banged on my preference and that's so important for me.

Characters (3/5): Actually, I didn't really like Jack because I didn't learn many information about him and his life. So, it didn't help me see Jack through Laurie's eyes and fall in love with him too. Besides, I would love to learn more about Laurie's sister and their past relationship between them.

Suspense (2/5): The story was anticipating.

P.S. When I finished this book, I cried.

General review: enjoyable, legible, ease-to-read

Moral: Don't let time pass without doing what you really want the right moment! Moreover, try to express your feeling without thinking about the consequences!

Rate: 4.4/5

The book I read and talked about which called "One day in December" is translated by Kleidarithmos Publishing House.

Thank you all for spending time reading this book review. Hope you are always good and remember that everything happens for a reason! 😉
